Flowers for Valentines day

All over the world people strongly express their felling to their dearest and desired life partner on Valentines day. People consider flower as the symbol of their soft & pure heart. That's why people try to impress their beloved one with the most beautiful flower on this day.
Saint Valentine's Day, commonly shortened to Valentine's Day, is an annual commemoration held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions. The day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentine and was established by Pope Gelasius I in 500 AD.
It is traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines"). The day first became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

Life with a superstar "Tom Cruise"

EARLY LIFE-- Cruise was born in Syracuse, New York, the son of Mary Lee, a special education teacher, and Thomas Cruise Mapother III, an electrical engineer. Cruise's surname originates from his great-grandfather, Thomas Cruise O'Mara, who was adopted by a Welsh immigrant and renamed "Thomas Cruise Mapother". Cruise is of German, Irish, and English ancestry. His oldest sister, Lee Anne, was born in his parents' native Louisville, Kentucky, while his older sister Marian was born in Syracuse, as were Tom and his younger sister, Cass.

Cruise attended Robert Hopkins Public School for grades three, four, and five. The Mapother family then moved to the suburb of Beacon Hill, in Ottawa, Ontario, so Cruise's father could take a position as a defence consultant with the Canadian Armed Forces. There, Cruise completed grade six at Henry Munro Middle School, part of the Carleton Board of Education, where he was active in athletics, playing floor hockey almost every night, showing himself to be a ruthless player, and eventually chipping his front tooth. In the game British bulldogs, he then lost his newly capped tooth and hurt his knee. Henry Munro was also where Cruise became involved in drama, under the tutelage of George Steinburg. The first play he participated in was called IT, in which Cruise won the co-lead with Michael de Waal, one playing "Evil", the other playing "Good." The play met much acclaim, and toured with five other classmates to various schools around the Ottawa area, even being filmed at the local Ottawa TV station.

POPULARITY-- In 1990, 1991 and 1997, People magazine rated him among the 50 most beautiful people in the world. In 1995, Empire magazine ranked him among the 100 sexiest stars in film history. Two years later, it ranked him among the top 5 movie stars of all time. In 2002 and 2003, he was rated by Premiere among the top 20 in its annual Power 100 list. In 2006, Premiere ranked Cruise as Hollywood's most powerful actor, as Cruise came in at number 13 on the magazine's 2006 Power List, being the highest ranked actor. The same year, Forbes magazine ranked him as the world's most powerful celebrity.

The moment of the Ground Zero Flag

Ground Zero Flag is a 60' X 30' (1800 square feet), American Flag was donated to a group of Ground Zero volunteers from New York during the rescue and recovery operations after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

These volunteers was recorded in the photograph which was taken first by Thomas E. Franklin of The Bergen Record (is a newspaper in Hackensack, New Jersey), taken on September 11, 2001. The picture shows three New York City firefighters raising the American flag at ground zero of the World Trade Center following the September 11 attacks. The official name for the photograph used by The Record is Ground Zero Spirit. The photo appeared on The Record front page on September 12, 2001. The paper also put it on the Associated Press wire and it appeared on the covers of several newspapers around the world.

Franklin shot the photograph shortly after 5 p.m. with a telephoto lens. At this time, he was standing under a pedestrian walkway across the West Side Highway that connected the center to the World Financial Center, located at the northwest corner of the World Trade Center site. Franklin said the firefighters were about 150 yards (137 m) away from him and the debris was 100 yards (91 m) beyond that. They were about 20 feet (6 m) off the ground.

Franklin had hitched a ride on a tug boat across the Hudson River, arriving around noon after the towers had collapsed. He was with photographer James Nachtwey when he saw the firefighters.

The firefighters pictured were Brooklyn-based firefighters 1) George Johnson of Rockaway Beach, 2) Dan McWilliams of Long Island (both from Ladder 157), and 3) Billy Eisengrein of Staten Island.

Stewart, Fleener also shine for Stanford

MIAMI GARDENS — Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was the deserving most valuable player in the Discover Orange Bowl after throwing four touchdown passes in a 40-12 victory over Virginia Tech. But tailback Jeremy Stewart and tight end Coby Fleener could have made a case for the honor after delivering record-setting performances for a Cardinal offense that produced 534 yards of total offense.

Stewart, a senior whose season was limited to seven games and 13 carries by injury, had a memorable final game. He ran five times for 99 yards and kick-started the Cardinal attack in the first half with a 60-yard scoring run. He had gained a total of 38 yards coming into the game."I saw the daylight and my eyes got big," Stewart said of his 60-yard scoring burst off left tackle. "The only thing I was thinking was to get to the end zone as fast as you can."

Austrilian City ‘Rockhampton’ Floods braces for more

OCKHAMPTON, Australia – Floods that have cut air, rail and road links to an Australian coastal city are now threatening its sewage plant, and waters are still expected to rise another few feet before peaking Wednesday.Residents of Rockhampton made their way in boats through waters that reached waist-high in some areas Tuesday but were warned not to wade into the them since snakes and crocodiles could be lurking.A huge inland sea spawned by more than a week of heavy rain across Queensland state is making its way along the Fitzroy River toward the ocean — and Rockhampton lies in the way. As waters drain, the city of 75,000 people is expected to see flood levels rise another few feet (half-meter) by Wednesday.

The river has already burst its banks, inundating houses and businesses in waters ranging from a few inches (centimeters) to waist-deep. Up to 500 people who live along the river have evacuated their homes. Air and rail links to the city were cut and only one main road remained open.Adding to the woes, Rockhampton Mayor Brad Carter said Tuesday the floodwaters were threatening Rockhampton's sewage treatment plants and officials may seek to discharge some effluent directly into the swollen river system. He said this would only occur away from the city, and that the discharged sewage would be highly diluted and would not pose a health risk.

President Obama signed the 9/11 health bill into law

President Obama yesterday (02, January,2011) signed the 9/11 health bill into law, finally delivering federal health benefits to sick Ground Zero workers who have waited nine years for the help. Obama briefly interrupted his Hawaii vacation to sign the $4.3 billion bill, which squeaked through Congress in the final hours of the lame-duck session last month. The president said he was "honored" to sign the bill."We will never forget the selfless courage demonstrated by the firefighters, police officers, and first responders who risked their lives to save others," Obama said.

Still, some first responders were disappointed there wasn't a formal White House ceremony. John Feal, a former demolition supervisor at Ground Zero who spearheaded the fight for benefits, said the long-awaited bill signing was a "testament to the resolve of people who wouldn't give up."

"The president's signing finally gives the 9/11 community some kind of closure and validation," he said. "I'd like to have seen it signed in the White House so the first responders who fought for this could see the fruit of their labor." Obama signed the bill in Hawaii because the 10-day deadline to do so was about to expire, a White House spokesman said.

Egypt church Hits by Bomb at New Year's Mass, 21 dead

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt – A powerful bomb, possibly from a suicide attacker, exploded in front of a Coptic Christian church as a crowd of worshippers emerged from a New Years Mass early Saturday, killing at least 21 people and wounding nearly 80 in an attack that raised suspicions of an al-Qaida role. The attack came in the wake of threats by al-Qaida militants in Iraq to attack Egypt's Christians. A direct al-Qaida hand in the bombing would be a dramatic development, as the government of President Hosni Mubarak has long denied that the terror network has a significant presence in the country. Al-Qaida in Iraq has already been waging a campaign of violence against Christians in that country.

The bombing enraged Christians, who often complain of discrimination at the hands of Egypt's Muslim majority and accuse the government of covering up attacks on their community. In heavy clashes Saturday afternoon, crowds of Christian youths in the streets outside the church and a neighboring hospital hurled stones at riot police, who opened fire with rubber bullets and tear gas.
